VMVC President's Rant
Well here goes, my first Presidents Report or should it be “rant”.
Its only been a few short months since the elections and its been an eye opener for us all to say the least. I almost feel I was elected President of the VMVC due to lack of interest shown from most other members, and enduring an Army style volunteering process ( " Di Tella! Congratulations, you just volunteered to be president!" ). It was only after the election was all said and done that we had a discussion with possible future contenders, who along with most of the regular members find the election process somewhat confusing. It is hoped over the next 12 months we may be able to review the process and simplify the required process and have better participation. It is also disappointing that the lack of interest from the postal voting community meant two, yes, 2! postal votes from a possible 250 absent members were received from members who couldn’t attend the AGM, I hope next years results will be a lot better and more people get up and have a go at some of the positions at the sharp end even if its only for one term. But, we do have a great crew elected and supporting me, most notably Rod Mills as vice president, long time jeep expert Dave Furness, and putting his hand up for the most strenuous position of secretary, Gordon Edwards ( who again is serving the dual role of Newsletter Editor) Welcome to all the Committee. It will be a busy year. Well that’s all I’m going to say on that subject, moving right along now time for the good stuff,
We have a NEW, yes NEW web page thanks to a very pro- active member, John Wilson.
John, who works in I.T,and has had a very interesting 20 year career in the Army, and still contributes in a reserve role, has built from the ground up, a completely new VMVC site. If you are reading this on the new site...well done, but if you are only reading this in the Oct newsletter, get on line and visit all the good bits. www.vmvc.org.au The site contains links to other Military Vehicle related sites including the world famous G-503 site, trip reports, a photo gallery and many other fantastic features. John has spent countless hours of his own time to get this up and going so please support this venture by logging on and having a look, leaving your comments and even better submitting your club event photos, trip reports, technical tips and even just a short yarn about what’s happening in your part of the woods, we can never have enough articles, photos etc to include in the news letter or web page, go on, GIVE IT A GO!! Well done John!
I look forward to the next 10 months or so and intend on, with the help of our committee and fellow club members, try and enter the club into a new and exciting era but I will need your help to do this. I can be contacted via the web site or my email address or you can ring my mobile to discuss any issues that you might have or suggestions on how we can improve the club, you might not see me at all the club events due to my other weekend commitments, but I’m sure there will always be a committee member present who will gladly have a chat or accept anything you wish to include in the news letter. Remember you have the option of receiving the news letter via the internet if you choose, it’s in full color on the web! And you will also help us keep our costs down by saving us postage and printing costs and doing your part for the environment!
Well that’s it for this month, enjoy the newsletter and remember there’s a lot of hard working people behind the scenes that put it all together and get it out to the membership, a big thank you to them all!,
Cheers and safe motoring,
Gino Di Tella.
