Terra Quad
QUAD vehicles don't come much tougher than the new Terra Quad all-terrain vehicle.
Shown at last week's Seymour Alternative Farming Expo by Loaded Dog Systems, the Terra Quad has centre rotational articulation. The articulation means the quad can rotate up to 45 degrees between the front and rear sections of the vehicle, making it highly agile.
Loaded Dog Systems' Bruce Watt said the US-built Terra Quad was a go-anywhere vehicle. "The ability to rotate from the centre combined with constant four-wheel drive makes the Terra Quad an extremely versatile and capable all-purpose vehicle," Bruce said. "Gullies, rocks and obstacles up to 66cm tall are no match for the Terra Quad. "It's a great performer in mud holes, ruts and on hills." A feature of the Terra Quad's design is its build quality. The front and rear sections are made from 16-gauge steel, which is powder coated. The front and rear sections each have a bench seat with backrests and the dashboard and driver controls are well laid out. It is powered by a 20kW Kohler, petrol, V-twin engine. The fuel tank's capacity is 45.5 litres and the Terra Quad's top speed is 32km/h. Engine power is delivered to the four wheels via a hydrostatic system, which has two ranges.
The system is operated via a foot pedal in the front. Braking is a four-wheel-disc system and the ground clearance is 32.4cm. Bruce said the Terra Quad's agility was matched by its load-carrying and towing ability.
"It will handle up to 560kg in the vehicle and can tow up to 794kg, so it's no slouch when it comes to load carrying," Bruce said. "We have sold a couple of them to the Department of Sustainability as they are ideal for carrying people, tools and equipment into bush trails for maintenance work. "It's not an amphibious vehicle but can handle water to a depth of 78cm." There is a range of optional extras available for the Terra Quad including a rollover protection structure, dozer blade and mudguards.
